(HomeGarden247.com, February 26, 2013 ) Taunton, MA -- A particular Victorian couple who had an arranged marriage through the 'Moonies' Unification movement stated that they were interested in creating a peaceful life through “a holy experience”.
Nearly 3,500 couples were married as a whole in Gapyeong, nearl Soul in South Korea, at the mass 'Moonie' wedding that took place on Sunday. The en masse ceremony was the first of its kind since the death of founder Sun Myung Moon last last autumn.
Hak Ja-han was in charge of conducting the blessing ceremony. There were an additional 24,000 followers who are reported to have taken part in the marrying by way of video uplink.
Steve Evans works as a PR for the Unification church in Oceania, and told the news.com.au that he and his wife Susi had the arranged 'Moonie' after they were “matched and blessed” by Mr. Moon in 1992.
Like so many couple who were matched overnight, Evans stated the he entered into the arrangement with the church and was “matched” with Susi.
The pair talked over the phone and considerable time together before the ceremony in Seoul.
"We submitted our pictures with a biography. We'd contact each other via telephone and decide whether we'd accept the match. It's voluntary. There's no edict," he said. "It takes time to develop the rapport necessary for making that commitment. It's not taken lightly."
Evans is an American raised in Portland. He joined the movement in 1974 after he became a born-again Christian. Years later, he was matched with Susi, who is an Australian from Caulfield in Victoria. The two were matched by father and founder of the movement, Father Moon.
"I was raised Catholic and Mormon, and Susi is Jewish," he told news.com.au. "The first generation, as we are, go through a process of around three years of full-time work in the church - raising funds, carrying out activities and reaching out to people to share the vision.”
"I had a deep, personal experience that changed my life dramatically. I was looking for something more."
