(HomeGarden247.com, April 10, 2013 ) Milwaukee, WI -- So much can be said about gardening. It is a way to commune with nature, to breathe life into the earth, and so on. However, there are a number of important points to remember when gardening in order to ensure a positive, stress-free experience. This press release lays out some of those points in a straightforward manner.
A great tip to having a fantastic garden is to be realistic. When shopping the glossy packages of seeds are very appealing, yet many of them only grow in specific climates. Be realistic to what grows in the area and do not plant items that do not grow well. It is so disappointing to plant a garden and have almost no fruits and vegetables come from it.
Fall is the time of year to start planting those bulbs that produce the beautiful flowers that herald the beginning of spring. These types of spring flowers are easy to grow and can reward with many years of gorgeous blooms. These bulbs need to be planted a few weeks before the first hard freeze in order to get their root system growing so they can survive the cold winter.
To kill off aphids on rose plants, spray them with a powdered milk and water mixture (1/3 cup powdered milk to one quart water). When the mixture is sprayed, the aphids get caught in the liquid and eventually die. Every few weeks spray down the roses with water to rinse off the mixture and reapply it if needed.
Organic Gardening
If you are practicing Organic Gardening then try using baking soda to prevent powdery mildew from forming on your plants. Simply mix one tablespoon of baking soda with a half teaspoon of mild liquid soap and add to a gallon of water. During humid or damp weather spray the plants which are susceptible to powdery mildew with this mixture each week. The unused mixture cannot be stored and used later.
